Everyone has heard of Plum Pudding, the quintessential Victorian Christmas Dessert. Steamed puddings, popular throughout the British Isles, are basically cakes that are steamed in a metal pudding mold (or a metal or ceramic bowl) in a large pot of simmering water on top of the stove. Dried fruits and nuts left over from summer are often added, along with spices, to create a hearty, moist and festive holiday dessert.
