Hot Cross Buns are ancient in origin, dating back to Pre-Christian England. Eventually they became associated with Holy Week and Easter. Tradition tells us that by the Fourteenth Century, the monks at St. Albans Cathedral in Hertfordshire, England, customarily distributed buns marked with the cross to the poor on Good Friday.
